When Is the Best Time of Year for Power Washing, Window Washing, or Gutter Cleaning?

Brad Forrest, Owner

Many customers have asked me what the best time of year is for my services. I’m going to break it down into the 3 categories as the answers are different for each.

   Power Washing

In general, the time of year for power washing matters the least out of the three services. It needs to be at least 40° to power wash safely, but other than that, pretty much any time in the spring, summer or fall should be fine. The period with the highest percentage of power washing jobs is the spring, but that is largely due to pent-up demand from the winter as opposed to any specific advantage to power washing during that season.

There is one caveat here and it relates to the pollen.  In New England, there is typically the most  pollen around the months of April and May and it will have a secondary peak around August or September. It is typically not relevant to the timing of power washing because it virtually never accumulates on the house to the point where it is visible within one year. However, the customer may notice the pollen if they wipe their fingers on the house and a yellow powder comes off on their fingertips. If avoiding this level of pollen is important to the customer, it would be best for them to have the power washing done in June or July and again in October, November, or early December to avoid the pollen accumulating on the house.

     Window Washing

For window washing, the time of year that the job is done is hugely important. The big factor here is the pollen. The pollen peaks in the spring and has a secondary peak in the fall. Unlike power washing houses, the pollen is easy to see on windows even if it is in a small amount. If the windows are done during a peak pollen season, the windows would get dirty shortly after they were cleaned. It is best to get your windows done at least twice a year. The best times in the year would be after the pollen stops, so June or July and then again October, November, or December.

     Gutter Cleaning

Out of the three services, the best time of year for gutter cleaning is the most unique to the customer’s house. The customer should get their gutters cleaned twice per year, but the time will vary based on the customer’s location. Some customers live near a tree that hangs over their house and drops all of its leaves in late November, and so for these customers it is best for them to get their fall gutter cleaning done in early December. Others either do not live near too many trees or live near a tree that drops its leaves in October or early November, so it is okay for them to get their gutters cleaned earlier in the fall. For the other cleaning, the timing doesn’t matter nearly as much; anytime in the spring or early summer should be fine for most houses.
